A community event was recently being planned … well, in the community. The man in charge of the event offered a special invitation to any individuals “from a foreign country” to participate, since this was going to be a cultural event.

One of my friends leaned over and whispered to me:

“Hey, you should participate then, seeing how you are from Sweden!”

I quickly replied:

“He said ‘anyone from a foreign country’. I am not from a foreign country, but rather moved to a foreign country …”

My friend quickly realized that he never thought of it that way.

Alas, what a difference perspective can make! And, what a difference we can make by trying a little extra to see things from someone else’s perspective. Many domestic fights would end in laughter rather than divorce if that were the case.

Please share a humorous experience of a time when perspective made a difference.

“Never write about a place until you’re away from it, because that gives you perspective.”
Ernest Hemingway (1899ā€“1961)
