As part of my daily routines I like to stay up-to-date with news from my home country, Sweden. Generally, I turn to the Aftonbladet website.

Today, I stumbled across an article about the increase of methamphetamine use in Sweden.

During the first two months of 2009 alone, police and border control agents have seized 1.6 times the amount confiscated during the entire last year. This, statistically, marks a 960% increase from last year.

Not only is this rapid increase alarming in itself. The drug itself is so much worse than many other popular drugs. Meth is easy to make and is four times stronger than normal amphetamine. The addiction traps you faster, and your body takes avery high toll. The methamphetamine users are greatly affected both mentally, socially, and physically.

Although the drug is generally taken in an effort to feel happier and more alert, the “before and after” photos linked to below speak for themselves.

Parents — do not hesitate to talk to your kids about drug and alcohol abuse.

Do you think we will ever be able to successfully combat the drug problem?
